I have been an avid Schutzhund (IP0) enthusiast for the past 20 years. I have competed in several National Championships and look forward to helping out the 2018 Nationals with track laying. Good luck to each competitor!

I started in Schutzhund 11 years ago. I am retired from Law Enforcement and while part of my administrative duties was overseeing the K-9 division with two different agencies in the United States, I began the “real” dog training after I retired. I have trained 2 HOT dogs from puppy up through IPO3. I have been fortunate in this sport and have received a huge amount of help from many in the sport. With my first IPO dog I was told he would I never be able to title him, yet I was able to get to his IPO 3 and go on with him to get the Canada’s first IPO FH. He was a difficult dog for this sport, but it just goes to show it is less about the dog than the desire to work with what you have!!
I have been a track layer in several trials, including FH tracks, from club through Regional level. I am honored to be able to lay tracks for some of the best dogs in Canada! |

I have been in the sport since 1995 starting with a Doberman named Max, then training another Doberman, named Bro to a BH level.
Realizing if I was to become competitive in the sport, I bought my first German Shepherd puppy in 2004 from Germany, with the help of Doug Deacon, named Bahko. Doug told me..."Be careful what you wish for". Bahko taught me a lot about the sport - it was an eye opening experience for me in Schutzhund training. Bahko went on to achieve IPO 3 and FH 1. I also have trained another German Shepherd, Brax to the IPO 3 level. My experience in tracking developed with the mentoring of Doug Deacon, showing and teaching me a method to find suitable tracking fields, develop a plan to layout, not only the field, but also to make sure that all the tracks will fit the layout. This was a great learning experience in tracking and track laying. I have laid out numerous tracks and field layouts at the club, Regional and National levels, including FH 1 and FH 2 Tracks. I find tracking a rewarding experience. I wish all National competitors great success and the very best of luck at the trial. |
